The Scottish Quaiche or Quaich originated from the common cup of the Middle Ages. A host would drink from the cup to prove to guests that no poison would be served. As the art of poisoning became passé, the Quaiche is used for weddings and other celebrations.

The Porringer is a piece that goes from Birth to Earth. As a baby, mother holds to feed. When older, the child holds to feed self. As an adult, it was hooked onto belt for food and drink. Once passed over, Porringer was filled with potpourri and placed with deceased. From Birth to Earth.
